Phishing is a kind of cybercrime that utilizes email (or sometimes text or phone) as a weapon. The targets are messaged by someone pretending to be some sort of trusted entity, often using the name of a real person, or company with which the victim does business. The attacker lures individuals into providing personal and financial information such as social security numbers, account numbers, credit card account details, passwords, and other sensitive data. The information is then used to access accounts and often results in identity theft and monetary loss. Phishing is one of the oldest kinds of cybercrimes and still one of the most widespread and malicious β and it keeps becoming more and more sophisticated.
